The aim of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering program at Izmir University of Economics with academicians who can conduct scientific and technological research and development activities on a universal scale in Electrical and Electronics Engineering is to educate researchers and innovative graduates who will be capable of using existing and emerging  technologies.

Program Outcomes
  • Accesses information in breadth and depth by conducting scientific research in Electrical and Electronics Engineering; evaluates, interprets and applies information.
  • Is well-informed about contemporary techniques and methods used in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and their limitations.
  • Uses scientific methods to complete and apply information from uncertain, limited or incomplete data; can combine and use information from different disciplines. Knows and applies the research methods in studies of the area with a high level of skill.
  • Is informed about new and upcoming applications in the field and learns them whenever necessary.
  • Defines and formulates problems related to Electrical and Electronics Engineering, develops methods to solve them and uses progressive methods in solutions. Can independently realize novel studies that bring innovation to the field, or methods, or design, or known methods.
  • Develops novel and/or original methods, designs complex systems or processes and develops progressive/alternative solutions in designs.
  • Designs and implements studies based on theory, experiments and modeling; analyses and resolves the complex problems that arise in this process. Performs critical analysis, synthesis and evaluation of new and complex ideas.
  • Can work effectively in interdisciplinary teams as well as teams of the same discipline, can lead such teams and can develop approaches for resolving complex situations; can work independently and takes responsibility.
  • Engages in written and oral communication at least in Level C1 of the European Language Portfolio Global Scale.
  • Communicates the process and the results of his/her studies in national and international venues systematically, clearly and in written or oral form.
  • Evaluates the results of scientific, technological and engineering research and development activities in terms of the social, environmental, health, safety and legal aspects. Examines social relations and norms related to the field, and develops and makes attempts to change them if necessary. Knows their project management and business applications, and is aware of their limitations in Electrical and Electronics Engineering applications.
  • Highly regards scientific and ethical values in data collection, interpretation, communication and in every professional activity. Adheres to the principles of research and publication ethics.

English Language Requirements

This programme requires students to demonstrate proficiency in English.

Academic Requirements

  • To hold an Undergraduate or Graduate Degree with Thesis Diploma (*),
  • To have graduated from the following departments with an undergraduate or graduate degree to apply for Computer Engineering Ph.D. Program:

i)Faculty of Engineering: Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Industrial Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering;

ii) Faculty of Science: Mathematics-Computer Sciences, Faculty of Education: Computer and Teaching Technologies;

  • To have graduated from the departments of Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Biology, or Physics, Mathematics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Industrial Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering with an undergraduate or graduate degree to apply for Applied Mathematics and Statistics Ph.
  • To graduate with a GPA of 3.00 over 4.00 or equivalent point average,
  • To achieve the required exam scores and type of scores in Academic Personnel and Graduate Program (ALES), Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and Graduate Management Aptitude Test  (GMAT) specified in the table below, for graduate degree programs with thesis.
  • To score at least 70 in UDS(Interuniversity Foreign Language Exam),KPDS(Public Personnel Language Exam), or YDS (Foreign Language Exam), or an equivalent score from an internationally recognized  foreign language exam approved by Higher Education Council
  • To write a letter of intent
  • To prepare a proposal explaining the reasons for a Ph.D program
  • To succeed at the interview and assessment,
  • To submit at least one reference letter.
