The mention towards excellence award endorses the trajectory in third cycle training implemented at the Pompeu Fabra University in recent years, and which also involved previously an of ANECA quality award. Since the beginning of the program of doctorate in law at UPF, at the beginning of the 1990s, the purpose has been the develop sound strategies of training of researchers to contribute to the advancement of the frontiers of knowledge in legal science. This is both a fundamental research of academic Foundation as well as in the various legal sectors professional praxis-oriented perspective.

So, this is the last of the adaptations to the legislation of a consolidated program that has eighteen years of existence.

The program of doctorate in law at the UPF singles to integrate the different lines of research that are at the base of the research groups consolidated with projects funded in competitive public Convocations. The strategy of the programme has been the accumulating critical mass training avoiding the dispersion of the potential of researchers in law, with a program that integrates very active groups, winning dimension. The program integrates, in turn, in the Doctoral School of the UPF, and its strategy of I+D+i, assuming that in the framework of the third cycle only can be offered a program of quality with the sum certified career research groups.

The recent mention towards excellence obtaining, supposed signs of formative potential and knowledge transfer of the doctoral program, which in accordance with the received distinction must constitute an international reference in its field. Therefore, their high interest is manifest within the framework of the programming of the University system of Catalonia needs..

The training capacity of the program is the total number of theses defended in recent years, the rate of return of the students enrolled, the publications resulting from the doctoral training, the numerous rooms of mobility, as well as the research activities of the directors of thesis and research projects that are integrated, in addition to scholarships paid to students. In this sense, in the last five years (2006-2010) is advocated within the framework of the programme a total of thirty-eight theses for ninety-one registered. The students in the program have obtained twenty-one pre-doctoral scholarships from competitive calls for proposals. This information, in substance, is collected in the human resources section. The existence of conventions and mechanisms for collaboration with prestigious institutions in the field of law represent a suitable framework to carry out the projected training.

In this new phase, on the occasion of their adaptation to the rules fixed by the RD 99/2011, the program of doctorate in law at the UPF intends to contribute decisively to the improvement of the training of postgraduate with the significant increase in the number of doctors that can incorporate both the science and technology system and the productive sector. This is a bet which will be implemented in various annuities and their results will be achieved in the medium term. Since the basic assumption, which results from the new regulatory framework, to improve the quality in the formation of third cycle of academics and professionals is also by an increase in the number of graduates' doctors of the various programmes, which is subject to verification by UPF aims to significantly, contribute to this.
