The Physical Engineering research program from Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava graduate will be able to analyze and solve complex and non-standard tasks in the field of physical engineering and to find original solutions as well as to follow scientific and research trends in his area. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of Slovak Technical University in Bratislava as one of the oldest technical faculties in Slovakia with rich scientific and research activities has the mission to offer quality academical education of all degrees on the basis of free scientific research and creative experimental development.
The faculty’s mission in the field of pregradual education consists in preparation of universally profiled and flexible graduates of bachelor study programs with an adequate theoretical and practical level of knowledge and ability, thus in preparation of academically educated specialists for a wide social practice.
The mission of educational field in the second study cycle, that is in the master and in the postgraduate study, is academical preparation of specialists for the manager posts in companies and institutions and experts for the development and the research. This is realized by involving the students in the projects of scientific research led by their professors. Scientific research and development as a fundament of creativity is essential for quality pedagogical activity and is therefore being accentuated.

The mission in the field of science and research is granting the teachers, the researchers and the students on behalf of intellectual potential utilization with maximum multiplicative effects of research through the pedagogical activity an environment for free scientific research and creative investigation. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of STU as the faculty with technical focus of activities, conscious of certain responsibility for the economic development in Slovakia also actively affiliates the transmission of scientific results into practice.
Students holding the M.S. degree (or its equivalent from a recognized engineering school or having substantially completed the requirements) for that degree may apply for admission to the unified Ph.D. programme in Engineering. Admission to the Ph.D. programme is depending upon academic performance at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Those with the M.S. degree in other disciplines may be required to eliminate prerequisite deficiencies. These courses (or exams only) are extra charged. Graduates of foreign universities must submit scores for evaluation before admission.
Requirements for the degree of doctor of philosophy
The doctoral programme should be reasonably compact, continuous, and coherent, and such that a substantial portion be in fact done at and under close supervision by the best faculties of our Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
When a student has completed all his/her preparatory programme, he/she must pass a comprehensive examination. This is an investigation of the students breadth of understanding of the field of knowledge of which his/her special subject is a part. A short written report in major and minor or related fields with Summary of possible Dissertation work must be submitted too.
A minimum of two full years of preparatory work on dissertation is normally required to complete a programme for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Neither the courses taken nor the time spent in study determines the granting of the degree. It is given primarily for high attainment in some special field of scholarship and for demonstrated power of independent research in a subdivision of this field.
The dissertation is of no fixed length. It should treat a subject from the candidate´s special field approved by the supervisory committee. It should show the technical mastery of his/her field and advance or modify former knowledge, i.e., it should treat new material, or find new results, or draw new conclusions, or it should interpret old material in a new light. The dissertation is passed by of three referees.
The time limit on granting the Ph.D. degree is three years from the time of registration at FEI STU.
