The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program at Paris - ISM - International School of Management emphasizes an understanding of management as it is practiced and interpreted across organizations, sectors, and cultures. Each candidate develops the research and teaching skills to generate and encourage new perspectives on management practice. Our faculty members, who have earned worldwide recognition for their applied research, are the school's major resource for doctoral education. Over a four to seven year period each candidate must accumulate a total of 68 credits. Those candidates admitted to the program without a DBA or equivalent must complete 18.5 credits of DBA seminar coursework.

The program’s curriculum and teaching approach is consistent with the school's mission to educate working adults to achieve their professional goals and to improve the quality of education in their communities. It is designed to emphasize curricular leadership and to focus on applied and theoretical research that improves instruction and educational outcomes.
The requirement to complete 18.5 DBA multidisciplinary seminar credits allows for the choice and flexibility candidates need to meet their individual career goals and professional responsibilities. Candidates may choose the generalist track or choose from among the three specializations for the validation of this requirement. Candidates may seek advice from the Academic Director in choosing their multidisciplinary seminars which can be taken at several locations or online. Once candidates have validated their multidisciplinary seminars, they must complete core PhD seminars on research methods.
All PhD candidates must write a doctoral dissertation under the supervision of the Director of Doctoral Research and an assigned Dissertation Adviser. Doctoral candidates write a 10-15 page dissertation proposal which is reviewed by ISM faculty members to determine the feasibility of the dissertation's focus, direction, and the potential contributions to the academic and practitioner community. Once a proposal is accepted, doctoral candidates are assigned to an adviser who is selected based on his/her academic background, experience, and credentials; the Dissertation Adviser mentors the doctoral candidate through the dissertation process until completion. Doctoral dissertations are submitted to a review committee before final approval.

ISM provides both need-based and merit-based scholarships. These are awarded on a highly competitive basis to prospective candidates. We encourage those interested to complete the scholarship application and submit with your application package.
Tuition Assistance Scholarship is awarded to prospective students who exhibit strong academic ability, have substantial professional experience, and are pursuing any one of ISM degree programs, either full-time or part-time study.
Dean's Opportunity Scholarship is a need-based scholarship for students from underrepresented or economically disadvantaged regions, and are pursuing any one of ISM degree programs, either full-time or part-time study.
Women in Business Scholarship is offered to women returning to graduate degree programs after taking time away from their professional lives, or current working professionals pursuing any one of ISM degree programs, either full-time or part-time study.
The Next Step Scholarship is available only to ISM graduates who enroll in an ISM doctoral study, either a full-time or part-time study.
Publication Scholarship is awarded to prospective students who display strong research skills, have previously published in a credible academic source, and are pursuing any one of ISM degree programs, either full-time or part-time study.
The Student Blogger Award: 1000 euros of funding is awarded to applicants who apply and are selected to represent ISM as a student blogger. Recipients are expected to write blog entries on a monthly basis (minimum 300 words) during the course of their studies, as well as continue as an occasional guest blogger as alumni. The bloggers share their experiences in the seminars, events, as well as overall impressions of ISM and how the program is impacting the blogger’s life and career.
