About the Program
The mission of the Biological Sciences program of the Szent István University is training the qualified, top tutors and researchers for the future. The BS desires to train professionals, who can meet the future economical and social requirements on the field of basic and applied biology.
The prominent ways of our researches are the biotechnology, genetics and ecology together with the effects of global climate changes, and the various fields of applied biology in relation to the agricultural development, with the connections of environment protection and conservation.
Programme Structure
Topics include:
- Synbotany: vegetation dynamics, organisation of plant association, succession, degradation.
- Production ecology of plant stands. Autoecophysiology, synphysiology.
- Taxonomy, faunistics and zoogeography of invertebrates.
- Animal population ecology, population dynamics.
- Structure and function of enzymes, the regulation of proteolytic enzymes.
- Agricultural and environmental microbiology.

General requirements
- Research program: it is a specimen sheet which you have to fill out and your research program must be carried out accordingly (max. 4-5 pages)
- All candidates must provide two letters of academic references
- An official copy of the transcripts from all higher-education institutions previously attended by the candidate must be submitted, either attached to the application or by mail directly from the originating institution
- Any foreign or Hungarian PhD student is expected to have proficient written and spoken language skills, preferably in English (B2 level of English is required)
- International candidates may be requested a formal interview
