- The essence of the Chemistry program of the Wake Forest University is the solution of an important chemical problem at the frontier of current knowledge. This is accomplished under the direction of a faculty adviser who is chosen by the student. The student’s dissertation, based upon this research, is defended in an oral examination before a Ph.D. committee.

General requirements
- Students who are completing a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent are invited to apply online through the Wake Forest Graduate School.
- Transcripts
- Three letters of recommendation are required.
- An exception to the GRE requirement has been made for applications in the Fall. Specifically, no GRE scores are required for students who would start in Spring or Fall.
- International students (those who did not graduate from colleges or universities within the U.S.) must submit the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores.
