History

Founded in 1861 by a private gift of 10 acres in what is now the heart of downtown Seattle, the UW is one of the oldest public universities on the West Coast.

Sports facilities

Club Sports are voluntary Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) established by students who are motivated by a common interest to participate in a specific sport or physical activity. Clubs offer a program of instructional, recreational or competition-based activity; but should not be confused with varsity sports, which are administered by the University of Washington Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and regulated by the NCAA.
