About

History

The University of Surrey was established on 9 September 1966 with the grant of its Royal Charter, but its roots go back to a late nineteenth-century concern to provide greater access to further and higher education for the poorer inhabitants of London.

Housing services

We offer a wide range of student accommodation and do everything we can to help you feel at home on campus.

Whether you live at Stag Hill, Manor Park or Hazel Farm, fantastic University facilities, beautiful open spaces and Guildford’s lively town centre are only a short walk or bus ride away.

Living in student accommodation is a great way to meet new people, spark friendships and find your feet.

Our accommodation is spread across three sites in Guildford. Rooms are available in a range of price bands, so you can highlight your preferences based on what you can afford.

Library services

The University of Surrey Library and Learning Centre is the academic hub of our campus.

We’ve invested £16 million in the Library over the past five years to create a state-of-the-art learning environment.

ICT services

From 12pm on the 7th December, University IT will be taking pre-orders for the brand new ResNet Wi-Fi Access kits, which will give you wireless access in your room.

For just £15, you will be able to connect to the internet ALL your devices including laptops, smartphones, tablets and games consoles via secure wireless. You will have to buy the device but it is yours when you leave accommodation.

Campus life

The University of Surrey’s beautiful campus offers students the best of both worlds. Our safe, self-contained student community is just ten minutes’ walk from Guildford town centre.

Guildford is perfectly placed to take advantage of all that the region has to offer whilst being only 34 minutes by train from Central London and a short distance from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.If you fancy a trip to the beach at Brighton you can be there in under 90 minutes. If you’re fascinated by Stonehenge or always wanted to wander around Hampton Court Palace then you can be there and back within a day.

Surrey won the award for ‘Best University for University Facilities’ at the WhatUni Student Choice Awards 2015.
