University College Hull was founded in 1927 through the support of local benefactors, such as Thomas Robinson Ferens (who gave the land and £250,000), G F Grant and the City Council.


Study a wide range of courses across our six faculties: Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Hull York Medical School; Faculty of Health and Social Care; Faculty of Science and Engineering; Business School, and Faculty of Education.

The University offers over 2000 courses a year, from the very latest disciplines to well-established traditional subjects. Our students have a varied selection of undergraduate, postgraduate, part-time, foundation and continuing professional development choices.

Here at Hull, we have a range of dedicated and specialist services to help you reach your goals. Our friendly Skills Team can help you with any study-related issues you may have; they offer one-to-one and group sessions on everything from note taking to academic writing and referencing.

IT support, a Languages Learning Centre, a Wellbeing Team and many other services that may be useful to you at some point during your student life are always available.

Housing services

Accommodation guarantee. All new full-time students are guaranteed a place in University owned, managed or directed accommodation. Over the last five years we have invested over £24 million in refurbishing student accommodation.

Library services

The Keith Donaldson Library is located at the heart of the Scarborough campus.

Students at Scarborough can expect a well-stocked, comfortable library providing a wide range of services and study spaces. Our friendly Campus Connect team is available whenever the library is open to help with all aspects of University life.

ICT services

Computers are available both in the Keith Donaldson Library, and on the first floor of the Worsley building. These computers feature a standard set of software applications to help you be productive in your studies.

A wireless networking infrastructure covers the whole of the Scarborough Campus, including all lecture rooms, studios, and social and recreational spaces. This service is free.

Medical services

Health & Safety Services provides professional advice, guidance and training services on Safety, Fire, Radiation and a number of environmental elements in support of all sections of the University.

Campus life

You have the best of both worlds at the University of Hull. Not only do our campuses in Hull and Scarborough have beautiful surroundings and an abundance of outdoor leisure opportunities right on their doorsteps, they are also well situated – making them easily accessible by road, rail, sea and air.

The city of Hull is in the East Riding of Yorkshire, with good road links to the major cities of England. Hull is 200 miles from London, 100 miles from Manchester and around an hour’s drive from Leeds and York.

Scarborough, a picturesque seaside town situated on the North Yorkshire coast, is also within an hour’s drive of York and only 40 miles from the University’s Hull Campus.

Sports facilities

Sports and Fitness Centre

Recently more than £250k was invested in refurbishing the fitness suite. It is equipped with the latest Technogym cardio and resistance machines and a comprehensive range of free weights stations.

After your workout you can unwind in the sauna or perhaps even a trip to the bar if you've earned it! Other facilities in the centre include a sports hall, a large activity area, a studio and six squash courts.

The outdoor facilities are situated in grounds only a few minutes’ walk from the Sport and Fitness centre. These include a netball and tennis complex, hockey pitches, cricket circles, and American football pitches.
