About

History

On 5 October 1990, Chairman of the Supreme Council (Reconstituent Seimas) Vytautas Landsbergis signed Decree No. 1-640 on the establishment of Klaipeda University as of 1 January 1991.

Education

Currently, the University implements over 100 study programmes in all three cycles, providing research and technological innovations-based contemporary knowledge which ensures advanced university education and high professional skills and develops an intelligent, responsible, and creative personality.

Research

Over 60 research and training labs, a botanical garden, a research vessel Mintis, a research and training sailboat Brabander, the yacht Odiseja, an Open Access Centre for Marine Research,.

Library document funds with almost 500, 000 copies, and a publishing house provide for an important infrastructure that enables the succesful development of the international level artistic activities, fundamental and applied scientific research, experimental development activities in the fields of physical, biomedical, technological, social sciences, and the humanities.

Klaipeda University was founded in a geographical area unique from the economic, cultural, and geopolitical aspects, i.e. on the Lithuanian seaside, boasting the only port of Lithuania: at the national level, attempts are made to develop Klaipeda as a metropolitan centre and to increase the international competitiveness of Lithuania as a maritime state.

Klaipeda University got an accreditation for the next 6 years which is a proof of the quality of higher education it provides.
