History

The University of Zagreb is the oldest Croatian university and also the oldest university in South East Europe. The university was officially founded 23 September 1669 by Emperor and King Leopold I Habsburg who issued a decree granting the status and privileges of a university to the Jesuit Academy of the Royal Free City of Zagreb.

Education

With 29 Faculties, 3 Art Academies and the University Centre for Croatian Studies it is the flagship educational institution in the country, a place where more than 7900 teachers and 72480 students develop knowledge and acquire skills.

Student services

Student services consist of different information and advice centres /offices for issues concerning studies and student life at the University of Zagreb. Services include the International Relations Office, University Computing Centre, Office for students with disabilities and many more. They are dispersed all around the University, and some faculties have their own services.

Housing services

Year after year, the University of Zagreb welcomes an increasing number of international students into its academic community. Having in mind the importance of a tolerant and democratic international environment for students' successful learning, scientific and artistic research as well as their personal development, we strongly support and promote international mobility at our University.

Library services

As a comprehensive public Central European university, University of Zagreb offers education and research and in all scientific fields (arts, biomedicine, biotechnology, engineering, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences) and a broad spectrum of courses at all study levels, from undergraduate to postgraduate.

ICT services

At every faculty/academy of the University there are computers that can be used by students free of charge. To use the computers, a user account is needed. You can obtain it at the faculty/academy by filling in a Carnet form, or thorough the Eduroam services.

Campus life

University of Zagreb is in the process of building a new Campus “Borongaj” which is the biggest investment in Croatian education in the last 150 years, and when it is built (finished) it will be used by more than 20 000 students. The Campus was officially opened on October 12th 2007 and for now it hosts 4 university units: Centre for Croatian Studies, Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Traffic Engineering and Faculty of Economics and Business . 

Five other faculties are also planning to relocate to the Campus in the next few years. Besides the (re)construction of university buildings, Campus will be a home to a sports centre, student residence hall and a number of institutes.

Sports facilities

All international students that want to take part in sports activities can do so by joining regular sports courses that are obligatory for regular students of the University in the first four semesters.The types of sport and activities range from aerobics to yoga, from fitness to ball sports and outdoor exercises.

The Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb and its study programmes are accredited by the Croatian Agency for Science and Higher Education.
