History

Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1996 to promote economic, political and social development of the area.In 2001 it changed its status from a regional governmental institution to a state educational institution. Later in 2004 it introduced two master's degree study programmes. In October 2013 it received the Green Flag award.

Depending on the study program, students have different career opportunities.

Information technologies bachelor study program graduates are able to adapt to changing working conditions, follow market demand, development trends and technological changes, understand the industry processes and their impact on society.

During the studies, the students acquire an extensive basis of technical knowledge, which gives them the professional knowledge and skills required by the industry. As well as that, the studies offer an insight into user experience (UX), artificial intelligence (AI) - machine learning (ML) and computer vision (CV), cloud computing, virtual (VR) and augmented (AR) reality and data analysis.

Student services

There is international office:

The staff unit of the Administrative Department which coordinates international study projects and is responsible for foreign exchange students and staff mobility at the University. Coordinates ViA student exchange studies and internships abroad, informs students about various available scholarships for studies abroad.

And also study administration group:

The staff unit of the Administrative Department which is responsible for the study information system, administration of the study process, study contracts, organizes the registration for the next study semester.

Housing services

Exchange students are offered accommodation in the student hostel on Ausekla street 25a. As soon as your application form is received and approved, International Office will make a room reservation for you. All international students are guaranteed a place in a student hostel.

Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences offers only double rooms for its students (two students share 1 room). All rooms are fully furnished. A bathroom and toilet is shared between four students (two rooms). Several rooms share one kitchen equipped with cooking facilities.

Library services

Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences Library is a unit for ensuring the planning and provision of informative resources necessary for the academic and scientific activities of ViA.
Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences Library, together with Valmiera Library, forms Valmiera Integrated Library (VIB).

ICT services

Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences has an IT support group that provides all the necessary assistance not only in the university, but also in dormitories.
They maintains ViA computer network and servers, installs software, takes care of the technical condition of ViA hardware, maintains e-mail and e-learning environment, etc.

Medical services

There is local hospital in the city and also various health centers.

Campus life

Both Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences faculties are located in Valmiera city center.

Near to the faculties are also cafes, supermarkets, a library, a cinema, a theater, hairdresser etc.
