The Academy of Neuchatel was founded in 1838. It owes its birth not only to the strong political will to provide the region with a high quality educational establishment, but also to the geologist and paleontologist Louis Agassiz who made significant scientific advances at the time.
Bachelor and Master degrees are compatible with most other European universities and are in line with society’s expectations in a variety of innovative and cutting-edge fields.
Thanks to the relatively small size of the University of Neuchatel, students can be active participants rather than just an audience. They are initiated into the production of knowledge very early in their studies. Moreover bachelor students (in some fields) and master students have the opportunity to participate in projects with PhD students and other researchers.
Engaging master students in research opens up attractive prospects for professional development. Indeed, many institutes of the University of Neuchatel have established linkages with firms on the national and international level.

The Social service manages the social assistance fund as well as the University's private subsidy fund for students in need. It offers a sympathetic ear and guarantees confidentiality. The service deals with requests from students for social or financial support, advises them on administrative procedures and social security matters and, when necessary, directs them towards other specialized services (family planning, psycho-social centre, etc.).
The Social service also serves as a link between the Confederation and holders of Swiss Federal scholarships, for whom it handles matters such as arrivals and departures, health insurance, residence permits and compliance with special regulations.
Would you like to share a living space which includes housekeeping services? Then the University of Neuchatel has what you’re looking for, with affordable rooms to boot!
The library is open to the public by appointment only. The use of the library is for reference, and books are therefore unfortunately not available for loan but copies of the documents can be made on site.
