Description

The HDR Scholarship - WASM: Minerals Energy and Chemical Engineering is offered to PhD students.

The PhD candidate will work with Professors Zongping Shao and Moses Tade and Dr Xiaomin Xu on “Efficient and selective water electrolysis for clean energy and environment”. The PhD study will build on some of their recent work to develop efficient water electrolysers based on cost-effective, high-performing perovskite oxide catalysts, which demonstrates a feasible approach toward green hydrogen production with commercial promise. The key concept of this project is the design of novel perovskite-based materials for catalysing the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at the cathode and the two-electron water oxidation reaction (2e-WOR) at the anode to realise co-generation of hydrogen and hydrogen peroxide through a selective water electrolysis process. The candidate is expected to have interest in research in electrocatalysis, electrolysis cells, and other electrochemical energy systems. The candidate is also expected to have knowledge of Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and/or Physical Chemistry.
