Overview

At the PhD level, you will be expected to make an original contribution to knowledge. Most students enrol first for the MPhil and transfer to the PhD when their work has sufficiently developed. However, it is possible to enrol directly onto the PhD course, if appropriately qualified.

Programme Structure

  • You will have a supervisory team made up of a Principal Supervisor with experience in the chosen field, a further supervisor and, where appropriate an additional advisor. You will be able to access all the general support facilities on offer at the University. Research will be judged through presentation of a thesis or artefact and a viva voce for academic assessment.
  • You will be expected to carry out supervised research at the leading edge of your chosen subject, which must then be written up as a substantial thesis. T
  • The final stage of the PhD degree is the oral or viva voce examination, in which students are required to defend the thesis to a Board of Examiners.Applicants should submit a brief outline research proposal and CV. Two references are required.
