In this programme, we are waiting candidates to apply to following research topics 2019/2020:Polyelectrolytic Complexes Between Algal Galactans and Chitosan: Rheology and Biological Activities. The PhD project focuses on development of novel polysaccharide-based biomaterials with beneficial rheological and biological properties (e.g. can be used in wound healing formulations). What Do We Expect from an Applicant?

The study programme is aimed at students who are interested in different problems of biochemistry or analytical chemistry, and definitely at people who would like to develop analytical approaches in order to answer questions of biochemistry. The objective of the study programme is preparation of specialists of the highest research qualification in the branches of molecular biochemistry, bioanalytical chemistry or analytical neurochemistry who would be capable of independent scientific or applied research.

Why Study Analytical Biochemistry at Tallinn University?

In the development of the doctoral study programme of analytical biochemistry the international traditions and objectives of organisation of a natural sciences doctoral study programme have been pursued. The study programme was initiated in 2012 and it belongs to the study programme group of bio and environmental sciences that has been granted full accreditation. The study is mainly aimed at preparation of the doctoral thesis; participation in international research discussion is the criterion for assessment of doctoral thesis. 

The study programme relies mainly on the academic staff of the TU School of Natural Sciences and Health, but external supervisors have been involved from other universities as well. Cooperation with other research groups enables to involve researchers with very different backgrounds and high qualification in the field of natural and exact sciences as supervisors and consultants.

 There are 4 internationally evaluated research fields in the study field, the doctoral students are involved in the implementation of several research grants and international projects. The researchers of the field have extensive international connections; in order to acquire research experience participation in conferences, seminars, summer schools is enabled and students can study at foreign universities within doctoral study mobility programmes. Based on the doctoral study programme, an individual study plan is compiled for each doctoral student, which takes into account the subject of the doctoral thesis.

                PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. Delivered and marked by computer, it reports on a scale between 10 and 90.

              Academic Requirements

              • Admission exam (motivational discussion) is based on the plan for the doctoral thesis that is agreed with the prospective supervisor. 
              • Required English level is B2.
              • For the purposes of identity verification at the admission procedure the Admission Committee has the right to take a screenshot during the oral part of the admission exam carried out via video bridge.
