The central object of the doctoral studies programme is the production of a dissertation. Additionally, an average of 3 credits must be earned each semester in interdisciplinary or subject-related activities (courses, colloquiums, etc.); 3 of these credits must be earned each year by the completion of interdisciplinary activities held in English. Programme structure

Professions

The graduates of the doctoral studies programme will become the next generation of scientists at scientific institutes of research and teaching, such as universities, Max Planck Institutes, as well as regional and national laboratories and centres of research.

Furthermore, they can work in executive positions with the administration and agencies concerned with the environment or nature conservation, as well as with national and international organisations in the areas of conservation or agronomy/forestry.

    The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading).   • Minimum required score: 80

Academic Requirements

  • Certificate of a university Diploma or Master's degree (or equivalent; in English or German, as an authenticated copy or translation) upon the completion of at least 8 semesters in the field of life or environmental sciences or related disciplines in organismic biology;
  • Curriculum vitae;
  • List of professional and scientific activities in the field of biological diversity and ecology;
  • Statement on former applications (with or without success) for doctorate studies;
  • Statement on the motivation for the application;
  • Statement on former completion For foreign applicants: a proof of funding her or his subsistence.
