The Design of Electrical Engineering Systems - Information and Communication Technology program is offered by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e).

As a PDEng trainee, you will have the status of a TU/e employee. During the traineeship you follow an individual program consisting of courses, assessments and (industrial) projects. In addition, you will carry out a design project, preferably in industry. This project takes 15 months and is spread over two years.

The PDEng programs lead to a Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng degree). All PDEng programs are given under the banner of the 4TU.School for Technological Design, Stan Ackermans Institute. This institute is a collaboration between the four technological universities in the Netherlands.

Career opportunities

After successfully completing all parts of the study programme students will receive a certified diploma. A certified PDEng has in-depth knowledge of design processes, theoretical as well as practical, which clearly distinguishes him/her from a ‘normal’ MSc. The ICT program trained (over 20 years now) more than 200 Technological Designers in Information and Communication Technology. They have found challenging and exciting jobs in (multi)national companies, including Philips, NXP Semiconductors, ASML, Océ, Ericsson, Infineon, TNO, Vodafone, and many Small to Medium-sized Enterprises (SME’s).

This program is recognized as a PDEng program by the CCTO, the Dutch certification institute for technological PDEng programs.

Detailed Programme Facts

Programme Structure

The two year training program Information and Communication Technology (120 ECTs) is composed of lectures, workshops and engineering design projects. The trainees spend on average 30% of their time at university and 70% of their time working on the engineering projects, typically in the ICT oriented industry or in ICT related projects at TU/e. The program consists of 5 modules:

  • Module 1: Technology and design
  • Module 2: Domain specific specialization courses
  • Module 3: Professional and Personal development
  • Module 4: Innovation and Entrepreneurship
  • Module 5: Engineering project

English Language Requirements

This programme requires students to demonstrate proficiency in English.

Academic Requirements

The programme Information and Communication Technology is open to recently graduated MSc students from top universities only. More specifically, application is only open to those candidates holding an MSc degree that is recognized by the Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education and to those candidates who have passed a regular post-BSc scientific study programme of at least two years in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Computer Science or Applied Mathematics. Admission standards are high in order to maintain the quality of the programme. Good marks, technical background, possible work experience, motivation and personality are decisive factors.
