The 3rd-cycle study programme in Philosophy leads to "doktorat znanosti" (PhD degree). It is implemented by the Faculty of Arts.

The objective of the doctoral study programme is to educate the best professionals in the field of philosophy through the provision of broad humanistic knowledge, offering a foundation for understanding the most difficult philosophic questions, problems, and issues: i.e., theoretical and methodological concepts.

The objective is thus to qualify professionals for independent development of new knowledge and for solving the most demanding problems by testing and improving the known and discovering new solutions in the field of philosophy and in the broader area of the humanities.

Professionals who are thus qualified will have the capacity to develop critical reflection and the competentce to solve the most demanding philosophical questions, to publish them in the form of scholarly articles or monographs and to conduct research projects. Moreover, the production processes for and application of knowledge, among which specific philosophical knowledge, capabilities, and skills are not only wanted but inevitable, have become more and more diverse.

New fields are being added to the traditional ones: philosophies of particular academic disciplines: professional ethics and applied epistemology, artificial intelligence models, etc. The newly drafted philosophy program is up-to-date even in the sense of offering students a solid basis for interdisciplinary cooperation.

The study programme has been accredited by the Slovenian Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (Slovenian abbreviation: NAKVIS; English abbreviation SQAA).
