Overview

  • The DBA is a research-based doctorate ideal for those who are enthusiastic about learning and who want to make a difference to the way that management and professional practice is developed in their specialism. Studying for a business doctorate allows you to develop evidence-based research and a full doctoral thesis, equivalent to a PhD, whilst continuing to pursue a career as a senior professional or manager.
  • The DBA program of Munich Business School and Sheffield Hallam University gives you the opportunity to discuss key substantive topics that reflect research and advances in organizational and business knowledge. Furthermore, you will be guided through each step of developing, planning, and managing your doctoral research project.
  • The DBA program of Munich Business School is the first and only DBA program in Bavaria for which the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Culture, Science and the Arts has officially approved the execution of study programs and conduction of university examinations according to article 86 paragraph 1 of the BayHSchG (Bavarian University Law).

Programme Structure

Program Structure and Goals

  • The structure of the DBA program reflects two objectives: the first is to present you with an opportunity to discuss key substantive topics and concepts in contemporary business and management theory; the second is to take you through the process of developing and planning a doctoral research project in a staged way, and then to the execution of the project itself.
  • To reach these objectives, the DBA program is backed up by a set of three complementary modules, all of which are taught and assessed during phase one of your DBA studies. Upon the successful completion of these modules, you will be left with the foundation of your thesis. The modules are delivered in one-week blocks, and then contextualized with the help of your supervisor.
  • Module 1 (SHU): Critical Thinking in Business Administration
  • Module 2 (MBS): Contemporary Issues in Business and Management
  • Module 3 (MBS): Research Approaches and Designs
