Overview

PDEEC has a duration of 4 years, being the first year organized into 8 courses of 7.5 ECTS of advanced mandatory and elective courses distributed by two semesters. The other 3 years correspond to the development of the Ph.D. thesis research work.

Programme Structure

Research Plan course has the following main objectives: 

  • define the scope and topic of the PhD research; typically, this consists in identifying the state-of-the-art material, and developing a draft research plan. 
  • The output of work carried out within the scope of this course is the Thesis Research Plan (TRP) to be submitted for oral exam.

  • Graduation certificate regarding a higher education degree (mandatory);
  • Certificate of the higher education institution listing the curricular units in which you got a passing grade, indicating the regime (semester/year) and the number of credit units/ECTS. (mandatory);
  • Enrolment will be subject to the presentation of the corresponding certificate within the deadlines indicated;
  • UP students are only required to scan and attach the information included in their “Percurso Académico” (Academic Pathway);

Funding

PhD Scholarships support graduates who comply with the requirements to apply for PhD studies and who wish to carry out research towards this degree. Scholarships have a maximum duration of four years, and must run for a minimum of three consecutive months. The work programme may be carried out at Portuguese or foreign institutions.
