Political Science faculty members publish extensively in Canadian and international journals, and have been instrumental in shaping many of the central debates in contemporary Canadian politics.

Quantitative Analysis in Political Science

Advanced Quantitative Analysis in Political Science

Research Methods

Students demonstrate knowledge of research methods or complete a course on quantitative analysis in political science.

Candidacy

Students will complete both oral and written candidacy exams.

Thesis

Students will be required to submit and defend an original research dissertation.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3.7

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3.7 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • A Master of Arts in Political Science or a strong background in Political Science.
  • A statement of research interests
  • Email confirmation from a potential supervisor who is interested in supervising your work
  • Two Reference letters
  • Sample of written work, preferably a paper submitted for a Political Science course.
  • A minimum of 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 point system, over the past two years of full-time study (a minimum of 10 full-course equivalents or 60 units) of the undergraduate degree.
