About

The PhD in Media and Arts Technology programme has three main components:

  • Six advanced taught modules ranging from advanced technical skills to interaction design;
  • An advanced research project;
  • PhD research examined by thesis and viva.
The programme is structured as follows:
  • Year 1: 90 credits of taught modules, and 90 credits of research project
  • Years 2, 3, 4, 5: PhD research programme following the progression points of EECS PhD policies and procedures

Programme Structure

Courses include:
  • Interactive Digital Multimedia Techniques: including Max MSP, Arduino and Raspberry Pi programming;
  • Sound Recording and Production Techniques: audio piece developed in Logic software;
  • Digital Arts documentary: a documentary made with expert production advice and edited in Apple’s Final Cut Pro;
  • Research Methods: methods and approaches to undertaking academic research;
  • Two specialist modules chosen from within EECS e.g. Java programming, C++, or Design for Human Interaction.

    PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. Delivered and marked by computer, it reports on a scale between 10 and 90.

Where appropriate, a second referee can provide comment on your professional experience.
