The purpose of the Ph.D. degree in Health Promotion and Education is to prepare graduate students to perform at the highest levels of research, teaching, and administration in various health settings. The program goals focus on program planning, program evaluation, research, and state of the art interventions with populations or health content. Graduates will work in the communities, schools, government agencies, and various worksites.

Programme Structure

Content areas of expertise may be a variety of topics that include 1) body image and eating disorders, 2) resilience and stress management, 3) integrative health, and 4) emergency programs, or 5) selected populations (families, international populations, and others).

English Language Requirements

    The TOEFL iBT ® measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The test has four sections (reading, listening, speaking, and writing), each with a score range of 0-30, for a total score range of 0-120.

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00.     The TOEFL®PBT is administered in a paper format and measures your ability to use and understand English in a classroom setting at the college or university level. It accurately measures how well you can listen, read and write in English while performing academic tasks.

General Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited college or university
  • A master's degree from a regionally-accredited college or university
  • A 3.00 or higher undergraduate weighted mean GPA (this is a calculation of the average of combined GPAs from all institutions attended). 
  • GRE score of 300 or higher on the combined verbal and quantitative sections and a 4 on the written portion
  • International applications only: A minimum TOEFL score of 80 iBT (550 pBT) or better, or a minimum IELTS band score of 6.5 or better.
