The purpose of the PhD Degree in Occupational and Environmental Health (OEH) is to train individuals interested in pursuing careers in occupational health for positions such as researchers, academic faculty, or placement in prominent businesses, insurers, and government positions that require doctoral level skills.

All PhD in OEH emphases will be a minimum 40 credit hours for those with an appropriate prior master’s degree and 64 for those without a prior master’s degree.

                Academic Requirements

                You need the following GPA score:

                Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

                Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

                • Completed University of Utah graduate school application and transcripts submitted directly to the admissions office.
                  • GRE scores, quantitative, verbal, and written, from within the past five years (except for those with a prior US doctoral degree)
                  • TOEFL scores for international students
                  • Three letters of reference
                  • Goal statement, not to exceed 500 words
                  • Personal interview after the application is approved by the graduate school and RMCOEH admissions committee
