Overview
The Industrial Engineering PhD degree from University of Pisa purpose is to train highly qualified experts, certainly competent in the specific field of the research object of their doctoral course but at the same time trained to know how to focus and deal with complex problems, including multidisciplinary ones, both in the industrial and research fields.
The objective of the course is therefore twofold:
- The achievement of results relevant to scientific research, as the research activity of the PhD student must contribute to the advancement of knowledge and innovation in particular in the technological field;
The improvement of post-graduate training, to cover roles of highly qualified experts in universities, research bodies but also companies, etc.
To achieve the first objective, scientific results are generally presented at conferences and must be worthy of at least one publication in a qualified journal, possibly with an Open Science approach.
The second objective, namely the improvement of the training of doctoral students, is achieved thanks to courses specifically organized for them by the course itself or by other courses / seminars / workshops identified at the University or in other locations.
Over the years, each curriculum has selected a series of opportunities for expanding skills on specific subjects, increased in recent years by the numerous courses available at a distance.
Language skills are supported by two English courses of the University Interdepartmental Language Centre. PhD students are also strongly encouraged to carry out part of their activities abroad both for aspects related to research but also for their personal growth.
