The Doctoral Course of Earth Sciences offered by University of Pisa does not have a permanent administrative seat (the administrative headquarters rotates between the three Tuscan universities) and the doctoral students can choose any of the three Tuscan universities as their operational headquarters.
The two main Research Institutes dealing with Earth Sciences in Tuscany (the Institute of Geosciences and Georesources of the CNR and the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology) are members of the project network, and the Geologists Foundation of the Tuscany, ENEL Green Power and West System Srl.
The PhD course covers all the disciplines of the "Earth Sciences" area and the project network guarantees the presence of the human skills and instrumental resources necessary for the realization of Doctoral Theses on topics specific to the Earth Sciences.
The students of the Regional PhD Course of Earth Sciences come from Italian and foreign universities. For three years they move within the research structures and Tuscan companies that deal with Earth Sciences and are obliged to spend a long period of their doctorate in foreign research facilities.
Every year the student is required to report his research and teaching activities in order to complete the transition to the next year of the Doctoral Course.
The central moment of this phase is the year-end seminars where the student presents, through a report, the state of his research activity. These seminars are held in rotation in the offices of the three Tuscan universities.
