Key Features

The overall objective of the PhD in Ecology program at Colorado State University is to develop students as scientists and policy makers with interdisciplinary problem-solving skills to address global challenges in the ecological sciences from local to global scales.

Students in the PhD program engage in independent and collaborative research guided by advisors in the program.

Our unique interdisciplinary program allows students a variety of learning and networking opportunities. GDPE is jointly administered by CSU’s eight Colleges to engage students with expert faculty across multiple departments. As a Special Academic Unit within the university, GDPE offers a distinct graduate experience through both the breadth and depth of training that helps our graduates excel professionally.

General requirements

Bachelor’s degree in any of the agricultural, anthropological, biological, biochemical, mathematical, or physical sciences from an accredited college or university
Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
GRE scores are not required for admission to the GDPE program
Three letters of recommendation
A statement of purpose (please limit this to no more than 2 pages; here’s some good advice on how to prepare your statement)
Confirmation from a GDPE faculty member that they will serve as your advisor. Students can still apply without a confirmed advisor, but cannot be admitted until we receive a letter of commitment from that advisor.
