Overview

The doctorate of education in Teaching and Learning - Disability and Equity in Education from National Louis University students have a commitment to the full and meaningful participation of people with disabilities in education and throughout society as a fundamental human right, but also as a key to developing a more dimensional and just society. Our students are prepared to impact policy and practice through critical research, scholarship and pedagogy centered on the analysis of disability in personal, social, cultural, political, economic and historical contexts.

Career

The disability and equity in education major prepares individuals for roles in higher education, research, community leadership or public policy analysis. A recent U.S. Department of Education-sponsored study found that there is a growing shortage of higher education faculty who are prepared to teach the students who will provide services to students with disabilities.

NLU’s disability and equity in education program allows candidates to prepare for such careers through optional teaching or co-teaching in master’s and bachelor’s programs and other supervised research opportunities.
