The program's blend of equity-focused, theoretical, and practical courses, together with electives and teaching, research, and/or field experiences, prepare highly competent professionals who make crucial changes toward equity within the field of literacy. The RLL major encourages students to explore broad issues in literacy education, as well as delve deeply into an area(s) of specialization. Graduates of this program also know how to connect research on language, cognition, and learning and design into their classroom instruction.

Highlights

The Teaching and Learning - Reading, Language and Literacy program at National Louis University is designed for individuals with a Master’s degree who seek to become literacy leaders and specialized professionals and are willing to engage with current literacy topics through critical, racial, and social justice frameworks. Successful RLL students seek in-depth knowledge on language development, early reading acquisition, writing, reading comprehension, and ways to lead professional learning experiences.

The National Louis University Low Residency approach provides learners in select programs with the convenience of online learning and the opportunity to meet occasionally with their classmates and professors, as well as with community members to engage in networking, team building, and high-impact instruction. Low Residency programs are essentially fully online programs paired with integral, intentional, and structured in-person learning events (residencies).
