The Mechanical Engineering programme from Silesian University of Technology prepare students to achieve a high degree of specialization and expertise in a scientific discipline.

The Silesian University of Technology organizes its PhD studies within the Joint Doctoral School. 

The Joint Doctoral School offers interdisciplinary education covering a wide range of scientific disciplines (Topics of PhD thesis).  Duration of a PhD programme is 4 years with full-time enrolment. Each PhD student receives a scholarship without charging for tuition.

Programme Structure

Research topics:

  • Development of methods for optomization of mechanical structures using quantum computing
  • Development of the methodology of forecasting the properties of engineering materials using the Finite Element Method
  • Development of a silanization process for spherical aluminosilicates dedicated as a filler for polymers used in engineering
  • Analysis of biomechanical and bioelectrical parameters for the purposes of automating diagnostics and rehabilitation of patients
  • Determination of the influence of surface treatment conditions on the set of mechanical and physicochemical properties of biomaterials used on the elements of a pair of rubbing head - the acetabulum of the brachial endoprosthesis
  • Influence of creep-relaxation and low-cycle fatigue of a selected metal alloy subjected to constant and cyclic mechanical load on the strength and structure of the material

General Requirements

  • Call for admission to PhD programme is open to students of all ages and nationality who obtained a second level University degree (Master level). 
  • International qualifications will be assessed by the Examination Board during the selection and evaluation procedure and will be declared equivalent (or not) to a Polish second level degree – Master Degree.
  • Knowledge of English at the level at least B2 of the European System
