Medical Biochemistry

Overview

The aim of PhD program in Medical Biochemistry at Near East University is to raise human power who is competitive, talented, reliable, self-contained and scientificly honest advanced knowledge, aware of recent findings in biochemistry and can establish and evaluate the structure-function relationship at molecular, cellular, tissue and system level who should be able to plan and perform an original research by himself/herself and should be able to present his/her findings to the universal scientific community.

The course covers the mechanisms of biomolecular reactions as reflected in kinetic patterns. 

The main approach is to present a series of illustrative examples, from simple chemical interconversions to enzymatic systems, pointing out the basic experimental approaches in kinetic investigation and the link between reaction mechanism and kinetic behavior. 

Lecture hours are dedicated mainly to the sampling of different reaction types. Hand-out sheets with quantitative and data interpretation type problems serve as homework. Part of the lecture program is allotted to class discussion of such hand-outs.

In this course, postgraduate students will get knowledge about the kinetic behaviour of various enzymes. 

After this course, students are expected to acquire competences to determine the kinetic mechanism of an enzyme catalyzed reaction and calculate its kinetic constants; to develop the kinetic behaviour model of the enzyme from experimental data; and to express the behavioural model in the form of a velocity equation.
