The proposed research motives can result in development of specialist resin and/or isolating system to be used in situations where the coupled application of CP system and CFRP composites is needed.

The objectives of the Electrical Interactions Between Cathodic Protection Systems and Surface - Bonded CFRP Composites in RC Structures programme from Coventry University are:

a. To investigate the interaction between CP system and CFRP in RC structures with respect to the following parameters:

  • Extent of acid generation as a function of protection current density
  • CFRP/concrete bond strength and its change with time
  • Stray current corrosion of CFRP
  • Type of adhesive
  • Structural performance of CFRP composites
b. To evaluate how the impact of CP on longevity of CFRP composite system can be minimised by altering the geometry of anodes, type of adhesive, method / sequence of application of CFRP and other additional protective measures.
