This research-intensive, multidisciplinary PhD program in Cognitive Science at Central European University (CEU) provides specialized knowledge in the fields of social cognition, cognitive development as well as formal and biological models of perception and learning.

The doctoral program in Cognitive Science at Central European University (CEU)  includes training in experimental methods and, mainly in the first year, coursework on the basic notions and theories in cognitive science and a possible focus on social cognition and cognitive social sciences. The program offers courses in cognitive psychology, philosophy of mind, cognitive anthropology, visual perception and computational modeling. Students receive regular supervision and practical research training in the CEU labs, from experimental design to data analysis. During the research period, students will develop into independent researchers, with the ability to contribute to cognitive science with analyzes and empirical data. They will also have the opportunity to join research groups and work closely together with faculty members.

Doctoral enrollment may continue up to a maximum of six years. Students admitted into CEU doctoral programs are eligible to receive the CEU Doctoral Fellowship for up to three years. Numerous additional funding opportunities exist, such as the Doctoral Research Support Grant Program, the Erasmus Mobility Scheme, and various research and travel funds.

Programme Structure

The main goal of the courses is to ensure that the students master the basic notions and theories in cognitive science and can do cutting-edge doctoral research in one area of expertise of program, such as social cognitive sciences and the study of social cognition. The PhD program provides basic training (taught courses) on at least the following topics:
