The academic team has a wealth of international experience in research and research training, as well as an impressive record of attracting grants from research councils, charities and industry.

They pursue our work under two broad banners: our Visual Function and Physiology Research Group; and the Anglia Vision Research Group.

  • The basic processes and neural mechanism of normal vision perception, including spatio-temporal vision, image processing, colour vision, stereopsis and binocular vision
  • How mechanisms differ in developing, aging, anomalous and diseased visual systems

English Language Requirements

You only need to take one of these language tests:

  • Minimum required score: 6.5

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00.   • Minimum required score: 600

    The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading). The writing part of this test is scored separately on a scale of 0-6. Read more about TOEFL (PBT).

  • Minimum required score: 100

    The TOEFL – or Test Of English as a Foreign Language – offers an internet-based test (iBT). The final, overall iBT score ranges between 0 and 120, and includes a scaled average from the four components (reading, listening, speaking, and writing). Read more about TOEFL (iBT).

Academic Requirements

MPhil: Youll need a Bachelor degree orequivalentwith first or upper second class honours, in a related subject area.

PhD: Youll need a Master degree orequivalentin a related subject area.

Please note we consider most candidates for PhD with progression from MPhil. If you want to apply for direct entry to the PhD route, youll also need to provide academic justification for this with your application.

If English is not your first language, you'll require a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component (or equivalent test). If you don't meet our English language requirements, we offer arange of courseswhich could help you achieve the level required for entry.
