Metrology and is the art of studying the world of measurement and is as old as the humans with an old Greek root métron-logía. Every day in your life you measure, every day in your life you have to quantify physical quantities and decide according to that measurement.

This Metrology programme is offered by Politecnico di Torino.

If you wish to know better and better a single narrow subject, this is not the place for you. But if you are curious to enter a field which is in everywhere and which is becoming fundamental in every farm and place this is the place you have to stop.

Come in, have a look at the research proposals, if you are ready to challenge yourself, you will find the research for you, either in the fundamental metrology with INRIM support or in the new frontiers of metrology at POLITO, CERN or INRIM, digging inside the metrology for health, for high energy particles, for chemicals, pharmaceutical and food industry, for energy and environment or, for the Industry 4.0. You will not be disappointed.

Your imagination is the only limit to your horizon: what you are takes you far.

Career Opportunities

This PhD is a first step towards a European PhD in metrology to which could associate the existing structures in France, UK and Germany.

Job opportunities are encouraged by the possibility of training in highly qualified scientific laboratories, which are equipped with modern equipment and primary reference measurement samples; the interdisciplinary nature of the course, which includes collaborations with other universities and agencies, internships in joint projects, linguistic and computer training, experiences in the European and international research systems; the presence of scholars from different Italian universities that stimulate the mobility of students throughout the country, in order to facilitate the exchange of scientific information and comparison of different methodologies; the presence of scholars operating in industry sector or closely linked to industrial applications which support the diffusion of applied research; a board of scholars with different skills and experiences involved in new fields of measurement and certification, requiring the development of new standards and measurement methods.

Based on these innovative and interdisciplinary issues, the doctorate aims to develop new knowledge, responding to the needs of the society, and to form professional skills which could be included in these new fields of metrology.
