Heading for laying a solid foundation and further following academic circles and the development trends of industries at home or abroad, we equip students with concepts of industry internationalization and employability and competitiveness. Integrating interdisciplinary teachers’ teams, we actively promote concepts of greening, carbon reduction, and even zero carbon, attempting to implement energy saving and carbon reduction, and increase students’ future employability and competitiveness. The concepts of green industry are employed in finance and computation, statistics, chemistry, research and production of food and cosmetics.

The Food and Nutrition PhD is offered by Providence University.

Department of Food and Nutrition was first established in 1975 and then changed to a doubled–class department in 1986. Providence University was moved to the present location in Shalu, Taichung County in 1987. Graduate Institute of Department of Food and Nutrition offering Master of Science degree was founded in 1988. Male students and night-class students were admitted to registering in 1993 and 1995, respectively. Graduate Institute of Department of Food and Nutrition was reorganized into two groups namely Food Science and Nutrition and Biochemistry in 1997 and began offering the docorate degree in 1999. Department of Food and Nutrition was relocated to the Theodore Guerin Hall (or so-called Food and Nutrition Hall) in late September 2004 and current groups were renamed Nutrition and Biochemistry, and Bioresource and Food Technology divisions from August 2005. However, for better implementing educational goals and raising the competitiveness of our graduates, the undergraduate and graduate divisions were simultaneously renamed as [Nutrition and Health Division] and [Food Science and Biotechnology Division] in 2009.

  • Our educational goals are to provide complete professional training, emphasize both theories and practices, cultivate interdisciplinary-integrated ability, and lay stress on service and work ethics. Students are equipped with interdisciplinary professional core competency. With Catholic concept of caring for people, students with scientific spirit are concerned about the society. We cultivate professionals with knowledge in green industry and sustainable development of the earth.
