Doctoral Programme in Biology, Ph.D.

  • 48 months
    Duration

About

  • The research activities of the Biology Department are diverse, and include molecular and physiological studies at cellular and organismal level as well as ecological and evolutionary research focusing on populations, communities and ecosystems. Although many research groups carry out in-depth analyses on specific model organisms, the diversity of life forms studied by the department as a whole is impressive. Our studies are embedded in a dense network of international contacts with universities, research institutes and companies.

The department of biology is structured into three main divisions that comprise the following labs :

  • Ecology, Evolution and Biodiversity Conservation: the research in this unit includes the domains of aquatic ecology, evolution and conservation; socio-ecology and social evolution; biodiversity and evolutionary genomics; and plant conservation and population biology.
  • Animal Physiology and Neurobiology: the researchers in this lab perform research on neuroplasticity and neuroproteomics; insect physiology and molecular ethology; functional genomics and proteomics; molecular developmental physiology and signal transduction; comparative endocrinology; and neural circuit development and regeneration.
  • Molecular Physiology of Plants and Micro-organisms: this unit investigates functional biology and molecular plant biology.
