Overview
The main objective of this In situ Microscopy with Electrons, X-rays and Scanning Probes program is to provide the next generation of scientists and engineers with comprehensive, method-spanning and interdisciplinary training in the application of cutting-edge nanocharacterization tools to materials and device development.
Outcomes
Our PhD candidates at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) are well-positioned in a network of international collaborations and highly trained in multiple, complementary techniques, providing them with an essential foundation for a successful career in the field of advanced materials and devices development.
Programme Structure
Research projects include:
- Structure-property relations of nanowire networks
- Degradation and corrosion at nanostructures and metal surfaces
- Growth and characterization of thin single crystalline layers for molecular electronics
- Degradation and corrosion of metalic nanostructures and nanostructured metals
- Hybrid semiconductors – metal nanowire composites for opto-electronic devices
- Mechanical switching of molecules on surfaces
- Structural changes in nanoparticles under pressure loading
- Mechanical properties and fracture behavior of thin layers
- 3D-deformation behavior of nanoporous metals and nanocomposites
