Molecular Biology, Nanotechnology, and Environmental Science are just a few representative examples of how Chemistry spans across disciplines. Students can find in Chemistry a solid background for modern science, in which old boundaries are quickly losing significance.

The objective of the Chemistry programme from Instituto Superior Técnico is to provide the 3 rd cycle students with solid and transdisciplinary modern training and prepare them for leadership roles in Chemistry by developing their ability to plan and carry out R&D projects in an independent manner.

General requirements

Having a background in Chemistry or Biochemistry is an excellent starting point for a Ph.D. in Chemistry. Nonetheless, candidates holding a science and/or technology certificate at the 2 nd cycle level who are attracted to Chemistry may be accepted, since the doctoral program can be tailored to fill potential gaps in their qualifications.
