Overview

The Learning, Cognition, Instruction, and Development - Literacy Education degree at Rutgers University will explore research and theory as applied to teachers, learners, and policymaking across the human lifespan and the professional continuum.

Students who complete the requirements will exit the programme with a comprehensive understanding of multimodal and digital literacies, new literacy studies, critical literacy, literacy and identity, and numerous approaches to teaching reading and writing.

Career

Graduates of the Ph.D. in Education Programme are expected to influence educational practice in the United States and abroad through original research efforts, thereby contributing to the advancement of knowledge in education, discovering exemplary educational practices, and contributing to local and national educational policy. GSE graduates most commonly go on to conduct research in higher education, policy organizations, governmental, and nongovernmental organizations concerned with education.
