The PhD program for Veterinary Science, at the University of Veterinary Science, was accredited in 1993. It was re-organized and re-accredited as Postgraduate School of Veterinary Science (PSVS) in 2002.

The PSVS, as the single postgraduate school in the veterinary field in Hungary offers education and research activities, acting as a research coordinator, too. The PhD program for Veterinary Science, at the University of Veterinary Science, has tradionally good cooperation with both national and international institutes, like the Research Institute of Veterinary Medicine, National Institute of Veterinary Healt, etc., and veterinary medical departments of the universities in Utrecht, Vienna, Hannover, Munich, Uppsala and overseas. 

Substantial co-operation based on mutual benefit ensures that students of the PSVS get education at the highest level, and are supported by the best infrastructure serving their research interest.

Programme Structure

Courses include:

  • Part of the quality management system of the PSVS is a well-defined, professional system, and client-centred protocols for minimizing the administrative work; and, insuring proper follow-up. The programs are under the continuous control and development of the Steering Committee of the PSVS.
  • They offer about 40 research topics for new applicants in their School.
  • The language of the training is Hungarian and / or English.


Lecturers of the School are highly qualified scientists and professors having PhD degree. Some of them have the degree of Doctor of Sciences of the Hungarian Academy of Science (DSc) and others are Member of the Hungarian Academy of Science.

    The TOEFL®PBT is administered in a paper format and measures your ability to use and understand English in a classroom setting at the college or university level. It accurately measures how well you can listen, read and write in English while performing academic tasks.

Applicants are requested to earn a GPA (grade point average) of 4.0 on a scale of 5.0 during their MSc studies.

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • Applicants who have MSc degree in fields, specified by the particular PhD school are eligible for admission to PhD studies at Szent István University. 
  • Admission is based on entrance examinations including a review of the MSc degree of the applicant and a face-to-face interview by a committee delegated by the Executive Body of the PhD School.
