Overview

This programme combines the in-depth fundamental research that is required by academia with the development of innovations that have market potential. With a consortium of 8 core Universities, 6 associated Universities, 4 core Industries and 6 associated Industries, the SELECT+ programme will offer the way to reconcile these two perspectives through multi-disciplinary approaches in which the students work in collaboration with industries.

The objectives of the SELECT+ Erasmus Mundus programme are:

  • Acquisition and formalization of knowledge by combining the individual strengths of the participating universities and industrial (technical and business, both core and associated) members towards interdisciplinary research of innovative character.
  • Creation of network of excellent PhDs with leading research groups, based on the specially designed and integrated mobility schemes.
  • Establishment of actual industry/academy joint research activities on projects in cooperation with leading industries.
  • In the end, launch of at least one start-up for each of “SELECT+ Projects of the Intake”.

The SELECT+ programme contains mandatory mobility where students are assigned to the home university and also a significant amount of time with the second university and industries. The SELECT+ participants will, upon completion of the programme depending on the mobility scheme, be awarded a joint or a double degree.

Fellowships

There are excellent fellowship opportunities for students accepted to the Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate programme SELECT+. About ten fellowships, divided between category A and category B candidates, will be given to the highest ranked PhD candidates during the study period which lasts four years.

The fellowship, given in the form of an employment contract with your employing university, includes:

  • Fixed contribution (to the Category A candidates only), to travel installation and other related costs at a total amount of €7500 for the whole duration of the program, payable subject to local regulations of the employing university
  • Living allowance of minimum €1400/month (the first 36 months covered by The Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), the final 12 months covered by the consortium). This is applicable for both Cat A and B candidates

Category A fellowships can be awarded to applicants from non-EU member states that have not resided in an EU member state or in Norway, Liechtenstein or Iceland for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years (by 28 February of the intake year). The only exception to this rule applies to third-country doctoral candidates who have previously received an Erasmus Mundus masters scholarship in order to follow an EMMC. Note that there is an exception for applicants from the EES member states Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland, they are not eligible for a category A scholarship. Note that candidates from Switzerland, Turkey and the Western Balkan countries (i.e. Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia) belong to category A at present (this might, however, change soon if these countries sign an agreement).

Category B fellowhsips can be awarded to all applicants that are not eligible for a category A scholarship. This means applicants from EU-member states, applicants from Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland, and applicants from non-EU member states that have lived in an EU or EES member state for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years (by 28 February of the intake year). Please note that exception to this rule applies to third-country doctoral candidates who have previously received an Erasmus Mundus masters scholarship in order to follow an EMMC.

Students fulfilling the eligibility criteria for both Category A and B - e.g. students with a double nationality - must select the Category of their choice in the application form. As a result, they are entitled to apply only to one of the two categories of fellowship at a time.
