Programme Structure
Curriculum:
- The sessions will devote particular attention to the criticism that the current investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) system is facing and the various reform efforts that States and other stakeholders are making to address such criticism.
- We will in particular look at the new rules on transparency and third-party funding, and at the innovations aimed at making proceedings more time- and cost-efficient.
- Moreover, the classes will address in some detail the ongoing work of UNCITRAL Working Group III with respect to ISDS reform.

For admission at doctoral level, you must
- hold a master's degree or a licentiate from a Swiss university or Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, or an equivalent university degree and
- you must also fulfill any other requirements set out by the relevant faculty or graduate school (e.g. specific average grades or a specific result in your master's degree, licentiate, diploma or state exams).

Funding
There are a number of ways to receive funding for your doctoral studies:
- The Swiss Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS) awards postgraduate scholarships to foreign scholars and researchers.
- The SECO/WTI Academic Cooperation Project may fund your PhD studies if you are a native of one of their partner countries. This scholarship covers your entire tuition fee and includes a monthly living allowance for your time in Switzerland. The decision to fund you is made after you have been admitted to the doctoral programme. In the absence of eligible candidates from SECO partner countries, natives of SECO priority countries may be considered for this scholarship.
