Overview

The Network has been confirmed within the new research International project MAPS-LED (Multidisciplinary Approach To Plan Smart Specialisation Strategies For Local Economic Development) HORIZON 2020 – Marie Sk?odowska-Curie RISE, for the period 2015-2019. The URED program is built on the two objectives firstly shared by the CLUDs and currently by MAPS-LED project,

1. Improving innovation and knowledge economy in the field of urban regeneration process by introducing new financial urban management tools and

2. Strengthening research partnerships through Mobility of researchers by focusing on activities related to the research project, the URED extends the topics towards a stronger linkage between urban regeneration and local economic development.

Cluds triggered a process of integration of the European Research Funds by the Structural Funds of the European Cohesion Policy by creating the “PRInteR” project (the Project for the Strengthening of the International Network) on the themes of urban regeneration and rural development through linked activities that enrich the CLUDs project and support the network already existing.

The project aims at strengthening the University of Reggio Calabria role within the international academic arena as center of international excellence on the topics of urban regeneration, of the public-private partnerships, and the urban- rural connections.

The International Ph.D. "Urban regeneration and Economic development”is one of the main activities of PRInteR. A qualified training activity is provided on the economic, social and environmental feasibility of  regeneration initiatives in accordance with the approach of Community led and local based. The first cycle began in the academic year 2012-13 and it still in progress:

  • During the first year the Doctorate students (6+6), selected by an international Commission, are required to attend lectures at the University “Mediterranea” of Reggio Calabria. In addition to the traditional doctorate lectures series, the program includes two specific lectures series, one chaired by the NEU and another chaired by the SDSU.
  • During the second year the doctorate students (6+6) are required to attend lectures in the US, Northeastern University of Boston. The lectures will cover the following topics: microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistic, urban regeneration, urban planning. The lectures are intended to prepare doctorate students for the doctoral dissertation.

  • During the third year the doctorate students (6+6) will complete their dissertations. The admission to the final dissertation is conditional on a positive assessment of the entire thesis by the supervisor and the PhD Faculty CLUDs Project international staff.
