UAB's structure includes three campuses, all in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona and its outskirts.

Bellaterra: a large campus for teaching and research

The main UAB campus, in Cerdanyola del Vallès, is home to most of our faculties, departments, institutes and services, as well as to a significant scientific and technological cluster.

The Bellaterra campus is also home to the UAB Research Park, a group of centres and specific partner research institutes created to meet the specific needs for important fields of research.

Sabadell: committed to technology, business and health

Sabadell, along with the Bellaterra campus, is the home to the School of Engineering, the Faculty of Business and Economics and the Parc Taulí Teaching Unit (from the Faculty of Medicine).

Barcelona: a new Health Sciences campus

Three of the six teaching units of the Faculty of Medicine are located in Barcelona:

• Sant Pau Teaching Unit
• Vall d'Hebron Teaching Unit
• Hospital del Mar Teaching Unit

Moreover, Badalona hosts the Teaching Unit Germans Trias i Pujol.

Esfera UAB

The Esfera UAB (UAB sphere) comprises all the departments, science and technology services, research centres and institutes, centres at the Science and Technology Park, and university hospitals that are members of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

UAB Science and Technology Park

The UAB Science and Technology Park comprises all the research centres and consortia specifically involved in research at the UAB campus. They were created with the aim of meeting specific needs in important areas of research. These centres include some that belong to the UAB and others that work in collaboration with other universities and with businesses, and with the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC).

Although the centres work as independent units, they maintain strong links with the rest of the UAB network (faculties, department and services), mutually complementing each other in a unique multidisciplinary environment.

The Vallès Synchrotron

On 8 March 2002, the Spanish cabinet gave the go-ahead for the Vallès Synchroton project, an initiative spearheaded by Ramón Pascual, Head of the Department of Physics at the UAB. Linked to the UAB's Institute for High-Energy Physics, the Synchrotron Light Laboratory has been working on the project for over ten years.

The Synchrotron is a large particle accelerator in the form of a ring with a 250 metre perimeter, and will enable researchers to study the microscopic properties of materials that are important for both basic and applied research, as well as for biomedical research and in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetics industries, to name but a few.

The Vallès Synchrotron will be located in an area near to the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, on land belonging to the Vallès Technological Park.

Services in the campus

People with special needs

At UAB we understand the educational needs of students with disabilities and the importance of integrating into University. That is why we offer adaptation programmes and services which respond to these specific needs. Since the 2005/06 academic year students in possession of a Certificate of Disability, issued or accredited by the Catalan Institute for Assistance and Social Services, do not pay enrolment fees for four-year degrees, EHEA degrees and official master's degrees according to the laws currently in force in Catalonia.

Health

A Healthcare Service (Servei Assistencial de Salut - SAS) on the campus offers a range of health services to the whole university community. Furthermore, various groups organise a range of health programmes promoting healthy lifestyles.

Food

On the Bellaterra campus there are a number of catering areas with bar service and self-service and/or a restaurant and/or a pizzeria. They are managed by catering firms and overseen by the UAB's Catering Service. Currently, they serve around 4,500 full meals per day, as well as other products such as sandwiches, pizzas and single-course meals. Most of the catering areas are open from 8am to 7.30pm.Sport

The UAB has a large array of sporting amenities, regarded as one of the most comprehensive university facilities in Barcelona. These facilities, which are run by the Sport and Physical Activity Service (SAF), consist of the following: a covered sports hall, three saunas,a football pitch and five-a-side pitch with artificial grass, two heated indoor swimming pools and solarium, five tennis courts, fronton court, five squash courts, two paddle-tennis courts, outdoor and indoor rock-climbing walls, physical fitness room and three activity rooms.

Retail outlets

At the Plaça Cívica and the at the University Village you can find a range of cultural and leisure activities, as well as retail stores and restaurants. These include the driving school, the hairdresser's, the hairdressing training centre, the pharmacy, the photography/framing/gift shop, the laminating service, the bookshop/music shop/stationer's, the optician's, the newspaper shop, the photocopy shop, the young person's clothes shop, the travel agency, the banks and the food areas.

Nursery school

The Gespa Nursery School is on the UAB campus. The nursery is for children between the ages of 4 month and 36 months that belong to members of the university community. The nursery is also open to residents of Cerdanyola del Vallès. There are currently 60 places available.
