History

On November 12, 1857, Dutch army surgeon Pompe van Meerdervoort initiated medical lectures in the Dutch language to government doctor Ryojyun Matsumoto and 11 other persons. This medical school called Igaku Denshusho is the origin of today's School of Medicine as well as Nagasaki University.

Housing services

Nagasaki University's International House is a dormitory for international students and international researchers enrolled in Nagasaki University. The International Houses are located in the Nishimachi (the Nishimachi Main Building, Nishimachi Building A, Nishimachi Building B) and Sakamoto area of Nagasaki.

Campus life

Nagasaki University is a multi-faculty university, located in Nagasaki, one of the oldest cities in Japan. It has eight faculties/schools and six graduate schools, and comprises three campus sites, in Bunkyo, Sakamoto and Katafuchi. The total area of the university, including affiliated facilities, is 662,000m2.
