Tokushima University began as the Tokushima Kisei Normal School in 1874, later developing into several schools. In accordance with the National School Establishment Law, Tokushima University comprising the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Education, the Faculty of Medicine, and the Faculty of Engineering, was instituted in 1949.
Especting the individuality of its students, the University of Tokushima pursues humanistic education to equip students with high-level specialist skills and the self-reliance to address the problems of society with a progressive spirit.
Through research that explores fundamental truths, as well as practical research to solve urgent social issues, the University of Tokushima seeks to produce findings that are valued highly by the international community. By encouraging free thinking that rejects the fixed concepts of traditional academic fields, our University seeks broad advances in academic research by developing new, cooperative fields of study.
The International Center comprises the international Exchange Division, the Education and Support Division and the International Cooperation Division. These divisions conduct a variety of activities, support-ing the international exchange programs of the university as a whole, promoting inter-national exchange programs for the region, and providing education, guidance and advices to international students and Japanese students who want to study abroad.
The University Library comprises two buildings, the Main Building (Josanjima Campus) and the Kuramoto Annex (Kuramoto Campus). The library supports Tokushima Univer-sity education and research activities as the main center for academic information at the university.
The Health Administration Center is aimed at supporting students to maintain and improve their mental and physical health.
