About

Education

Working across the full educational spectrum the department offers a variety of learning opportunities for:

  • Schools and teachers - through a diverse selection of outreach programmes
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate students - via our richly stimulating degree programmes
  • Industry professionals - through modular courses and our acclaimed executive training programme

Research

The research addresses challenges in the three most important sectors of the advanced bioprocess-using industries:

  • Industrial Biotechnology.Research focuses on biocatalysis and synthetic biology for the sustainable synthesis of chemicals, pharmaceuticals and biofuels from renewable resources.
  • Macromolecular Medicines.Research focuses on the manufacture of advanced biopharmaceutical therapies including antibodies, mRNA and recombinant vaccines.
  • Cell and Gene Therapy Bioprocessing.Research is concerned with the translation of viral vectors, engineered CAR-T cells, and stem -cell science, into novel cell-, tissue-, and gene-therapies.

Career

Our alumni form part of an ever-growing global network. They are part of a community with an informed interest in biochemical engineering, often pursuing careers where they are responsible for major advances in bioprocessing. We value the strong relationship we maintain with our alumni, ensuring a long-term connection and mutual support. Our alumni are vibrant, active contributors to the continuing growth and development of our Department and the international bioindustry. We are very proud of their achievements and their activities as ambassadors, and with their ongoing support, we will continue to go from strength to strength.
