Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU) is the best technical university in Slovakia. According to the Slovak higher education ranking scheme prepared by ARRA, STU has been the best university in chemicals technologies, computer and technical sciences in the long term. Other world rankings list STU as the best technical university in Slovakia and third best in Slovakia and Czech Republic.

The history of the higher technical education in Slovakia has started in the year 1762 by the foundation of the Academy of Mining and Forestry in Banská Štiavnica by Maria Theresa. The establishment of the Academy of Mining and Forestry was important moment in the history of higher technical education, as it was the first educational institution in Slovakia.


The studies at STU and its faculties are performed at 3 levels:

  • the bachelor degree study programme
  • the engineer or master degree study programme
  • the doctorate degree study programme

STU offers education in foreign languages, primarily in the following areas: civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry and food technology, architecture.

STU system of education is connected with the prestigious partner universities in the framework of international programmes, especially Erasmus+.


Research teams at the University are involved in international projects and annually deal with about 500 research projects funded through grants and hundreds of research contracts commissioned by businesses. For example, in 2014 teams of STU scientists and engineers worked on 274 projects and almost 500 research projects funded through grants, out of which 20 projects under the European Union's 7th Framework Programme of the , including the ENIAC initiative.


Mission of the CKP is mainly to:

  • provide information of job vacancies, part-time jobs and student-oriented products
  • mediate contacts between students, future university graduates and employers
  • monitor the requirements of the jobs market in order to better adapt the preparation of students to the requirements of employers during the recruitment process
  • organise work meetings between the representatives of institutions and companies and students and relevant university staff
  • rganise presentation meetings and discussion forums with institution representatives and students.

Student services

Each faculty and the Institute of Management of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava has its own Student Affairs Office (Students Affairs Office has in the Slovak language more variations: "Študijné oddelenie" or "Útvar pedagogických cinností" or "Pedagogické oddelenie").

Student Affairs Office of a faculty deals with the administrative agenda of all faculty students studying at all levels of study.

Office manages matters related to admission, issue of student ID cards, Transcript of Records, Diplomas, etc.

Students can submit their problems related to study personally or in writing to the Student Affairs Office.

Housing services

  • Students can apply for accommodation in 1-3 beds rooms in student houses of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava.
  • Capacities are limited and so early bird catches the worm.
  • Majority of rooms look like flats with 1-3 rooms and with common WC and shower.
Private accommodation
  • Students can arrange themselves accommodation in private flats. Real estate agencies will help to find suitable private flat.

Library services

  • Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava has 7 specialised libraries.
  • Each library is located inside a faculty premises.
  • Each library contains literature orientated to respective faculty study programs.
  • Students can enjoy access to scientific databases and electronic information sources, but they can also spend there quiet moments of studying.

Medical services

  • The doctors in the Youth and Dental Clinics take care of the student's health.
  • Health care services are provided by the state and private providers.
  • Students can attend general practitioners for students working at student houses.
  • European Union citizens must prove valid European Health Insurance Card.
  • Medical treatment provided by private services is available for payment in cash.

  • Faculty of Civil Engineering provides tennis courts and beach volleyball courts from May to October.
  • Faculty of Mechanical Engineering provides multifunction gym for basketball, floorball, sauna.
  • Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology provides gym, swimming pool, climbing wall (block T), marksmanship club.
  • Faculty of Material Sciences and Technology provides swimming pool, tenis courts, gym, ping-pong, basketball, football, sauna.

  • In the Academic Ranking and Rating Agency (ARRA) in Slovakia, the STU faculties have been regularly awarded the first place rankings.
  • In the Academic Ranking of World Universities, the STU has been also estimated as successful, being ranked 101st – 150th by subject fields – Computer Science (2012).
  • In Webometrics Ranking of World’s Universities, the STU ranks among the top 500 universities (2012).
